Many companies have both a Microsoft Dynamics back office – Dynamics GP or Dynamics AX, as well as Microsoft Dynamics CRM. Since Microsoft Dynamics CRM is web-based, it is fairly easy to use web parts or an iFrame to display data from another system.
After a great deal of searching, we were unable to come across examples of a grid to display Microsoft Dynamics GP data in Microsoft Dynamics CRM. We wanted to display the data in a Microsoft CRM Web Resource and not require hosting an additional web page written in a web framework, like ASP.NET.
We determined a Web Resource in Microsoft Dynamics CRM was our best option for displaying Microsoft Dynamics GP data within a CRM record.
- The Web Service is returning the data, so we can do things like add hyperlinks to an invoice number to open a PDF of the invoice.
- For example, a staffing company could use this to access invoices and view/resend right from their staffing Front Office software, allowing their accountants to use an industry leading Back Office staffing software accounting package.
- Filtering can be added to show open/fully paid invoices.
The screenshot above shows payroll transactions for the current contact record, but could also show invoices, timesheets etc.
This method could be used to display data from any other system (e.g. Oracle or SAP) right in Microsoft Dynamics CRM in an embedded grid.
